ITU Urban and Regional Planning Undergraduate Program Granted AESOP Quality Recognition

Following the evaluation and feedback provided by Tijana Dabovic and Ana Peric, members of the Excellence in Education Board, within the framework of the Quality Recognition criteria for our department’s educational program, the ITU Department of Urban and Regional Planning Undergraduate Program has been granted Quality Recognition for the 2026–2032 period.

Climate Action Simulation Workshop on Urban Futures in the Context of COP31 Held at ITU High School Summer School

Within the scope of the Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture High School Summer School (itüTA), students participated in the workshop titled “Climate Action Simulation: Urban Futures in the Context of COP31,” conducted by Asst. Prof. Rumeysa Ceylan-Çalışkan, Res. Asst. Dr. Gamze Kazancı, and Res. Asst. Gamze Mestan. During the workshop, students experienced global climate negotiations and evaluated the impacts of the climate crisis on cities from the perspectives of different stakeholders.

URBAN ROOTS Project Presented at EELISA Communities Forum 2026

The project titled “URBAN ROOTS: Collaborative Learning and Action for Food, Community, and Solidarity,” supported by the EU-funded EELISA European University and the Circular EELISA Community, and coordinated by Assoc. Prof. İmge Akçakaya Waite, was presented in the “Showcase: Best Practices” session of the “EELISA Communities Forum 2026,” held at UPM on 18–19 May 2026.

Madrid Learning Expedition Held as Part of the URBAN ROOTS Project

The project titled “URBAN ROOTS: Collaborative Learning and Action for Food, Community, and Solidarity,” supported by the EU-funded EELISA European University and the Circular EELISA Community, and coordinated by Assoc. Prof. İmge Akçakaya Waite, held its field trip in Madrid on 22–25 April 2026. The field trip was attended by members of the ITU project team, including Assoc. Prof. İmge Akçakaya Waite, Prof. Dr. Şence Türk, Res. Asst. Serim Dinç, and İrem Nur Yener, as well as a total of 10 undergraduate and graduate students from ITU with the support of EELISA and ITU BAP LÖKAP-E.

Workshop on the Integration of Structural Retrofitting and Urban Transformation for Resilient Cities Held

The workshop titled “Common Ground for Resilient Cities: Integrating Structural Retrofitting and Urban Transformation,” organized within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1001 project led by Prof. Dr. Şevkiye Şence Türk from ITU Department of Urban and Regional Planning, was successfully held with the valuable contributions of invited experts from different disciplines and institutions.

Evaluation Workshop for Undergraduate Urban and Regional Planning Studio Courses Held

A two-day workshop was held at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, ITU Faculty of Architecture, on 22–23 June 2026 to evaluate the undergraduate studio courses of the 2025–2026 academic year.

Field Studies Conducted in Rome as Part of a TÜBİTAK-Supported Research Project

Field studies were conducted in Rome within the scope of the TÜBİTAK-supported research project titled “An Innovative System Proposal for the Integration of Urban Renewal and Retrofitting to Improve the Existing Building Stock in Reducing Seismic Risk in Istanbul.”

PhD Student Begüm Eser Wins Best Paper Award at AESOP 2026

Our PhD student and research assistant Begüm Eser has received the Best Paper Award (A&U Journal Thematic Award) at the AESOP Young Academics PhD Conference 2026 for her full-paper contribution titled “Logistics as a Spatial Regime: Sacrificial Geographies from Nicomedia to Kocaeli.”
